Chelsea – Chelsea are currently in a transitional period, having lost a few players on a free such as defensive duo Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen, who both went to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. This is a result of restrictions imposed on the club and Roman Abramovich due to his links with Vladimir Putin and the war. This greatly impacted on the club’s ability to extend players contracts. They are however now under new ownership and have so far made two big signings in defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and England international Raheem Sterling from Man City. They do however lack at the top end of the pitch and Thomas Tuchel publicly made the brutal admission that his side are “not ready” for the start of the new season.

Crystal Palace – The Eagles have had a pretty quiet transfer window. Talks have died down linking Wilfred Zaha with a move away from the club and they’ve also made the smart additions of Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free from West Brom, USA defender Chris Richards from Bayern Munich and Cheick Doucouré from Lens in Ligue 1 on a five-year deal. All in all, it’s a positive window for Palace who will hope to improve again under Patrick Vieira.

Everton – The toffees have had a very typically ‘Everton’ transfer window. They lost Richarlison to Spurs for around £60 million which seemed inevitable at some point and have used that money to make some very typically ‘Everton’ transfers which we have become accustomed to in recent year. They signed Burnley duo James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil from relegated Burnley which seems on the face of it uninspiring to say the least. McNeil however could prove to be a shrewd bit of business so long as he rekindles the form of 2 years ago which had him knocking on the England door. Rúben Vinagre has signed on loan from Wolves for the season and it seems as if Everton are set to re-sign Senegalese international Idrissa Gueye from PSG which is a smart move. The club will be hoping to steer clear of the relegation zone this time around and a bottom half finish seems realistic at this moment in time for Frank’s Blues.

Fulham – The Championship winners have had a more methodical approach to the transfer window as opposed to the ‘signing players for the sake of it’ tactic of the last few years. Andreas Periera has signed from Man Utd, which seems odd as there are plenty of better options out there who demand a similar fee. Kevin Mbabu has been brought in for a low fee from Wolfsburg, which considering he’s a Swiss international with plenty of experience, will no doubt improve the side. However, it’s the acquisition of João Palhinha from Sporting which really catches the eye. He’s a smart, technically gifted midfielder who has experience playing with the Portugal national side and has attracted much interest from top European clubs in recent years. So the fact that Fulham have managed to bring him in, at a snip of just under £20 million, represents fabulous value for money in today’s market.

Leeds Utd – The Yorkshire club are in a bit of a predicament. If you had told Leeds fans just over a year ago, that they would lose popular manager Marcelo Bielsa, who got them promoted two years ago and key players Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha just over a year later, they’d think you were having them on. Unfortunately this is the reality and life must continue without them. The signings made by Jesse Marsch all lack Premier League experience and lean towards the younger side, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just means that there will be an adaptation process, which is key to Leeds’ survival this season as they are currently tipped to go down by most. It’s crucial that Marsch gets the best out of his new signings, such as Tyler Adams, who he has previously worked with at RB Leipzig for a short spell. It will be a tough ask as plenty of other sides have strengthed in and around them without significant loses to their teams. It really could go one of two ways for Leeds this season.
